
Amazon UPC Requirements 2026: GS1 Barcodes, GTIN Exemption, and FNSKU
Every product new to Amazon’s catalog needs a product ID, and Amazon checks that ID against GS1’s database before it trusts it. Amazon’s own GTIN exemption seller guide states it plainly: “We verify the authenticity of product UPCs by checking the GS1 database. UPCs that do not match the information provided by GS1 will be considered invalid” (data checked 2026-08-02).
